How often Google, Apple track you even if your 'location history' is off

Earlier this month, an investigation uncovered that Google stores the location of Android and iPhone users even if the users’ privacy settings say otherwise.
A new study now reveals just how often both Google and Apple mobile devices actually send data back to home base. The results are bound to shock you.

Both companies keep tapping into mobile devices for data when they are idle and in use. When not used, Android phones send information to Google around 40 times per hour and the total rises to 90 information requests per hour for Android phones when they are being used.

Apple fares a tad better. When your iPhone is idle it sends info to Apple’s servers 4 times an hour. During normal use, the number goes up to 18 for iPhones.
According to the study, Google even collects more data from iPhone users than Apple itself. But it only works when the phone is used. In idle mode iPhones very rarely communicate with Google’s servers. The study, however, has been challenged by Google.
