Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes unveiled

metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes.jpgAt this year's PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) convention held in Seattle, Washington, Hideo Kojima showed off a 11-minute gameplay footage for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. What fans will be more excited about is how it delivers on Kojima's brand new Fox engine.

The demo started with an in-engine cinematic cut scene featuring a rainy prison camp. The scene shows a man with a mutilated face and wearing a wide brimmed hat, who is seen handing over a tape recorder to a child prisoner. He later leads his troops away from the base and the next thing we know, Naked Snake a.k.a Big Boss comes into action.

As gameplay continued, Kojima talked about how Snake will be able to commandeer and pilot helicopters according to the player's will. The helicopters can be used between missions and to explore different parts of the world as well. In addition to this, player will also be able to personalise the music played by the helicopter.

Further in the demo, Snake deployed a flare to call upon a nearby friendly helicopter. Kojima was quick to add that players could do this "any time" during the game. This was just a a teaser of what is expected from the Metal Gear franchise as Kojima offered some interesting details for Ground Zeroes. Kojima mentioned that users will now be able to hijack vehicles as was evident from the demo when Snaked hopped into a jeep and took it for a spin. He further added the demo was rendered on a PC tested with controls similar to a PS3 with the final game resembling the demo.

Kojima, who is personally supervising the game's creation, clearly stated that this game is only a prologue to the Metal Gear Solid 5 and not the next iteration. Kojima, however, had confirmed Metal Gear Solid 5 back in June and said that it will also take full advantage of the Fox engine. Keep watching this space for more details on the game.
