HTC and Samsung are likely to offer cut price deals for their new Windows Phone 8 devices, in a move designed to put the squeeze on Nokia and its premium-priced Lumia 920.
That’s according to ‘industry sources’ speaking with Taiwan-based Digitimes. They claim that Samsung’s huge earnings in the Android sector, and its plans to release a string of Windows 8 packing PCs, means it’s in prime position to offer its stunning new Ativ S smartphone at around $100 (£62) less than the Nokia Lumia 920, which is expected to cost as much as $800 across the pond.
Meanwhile, HTC’s poor Android showing in 2012, which has seen the mobile maker shed market share and value, means it could be looking to make Windows Phone 8 its main focus. The recently revealed HTC 8X is expected to cost as little as $500 (£312) SIM-free.
Either way, it looks as if punters after a new smartphone are going to be spoiled for choice in the run up to the festive season.
