Sony launches 84-inch 4K TV for Rs. 16 lakhs

Betting big on the upcoming festival season, Sony India has announced a slew of consumer electronic products for India. First up was the Bravia KD-X9000 TV, which is Sony's first 4K technology TV. This 84-inch TV is equipped with 4K resolution (3840X2160), which gives four times the resolution of Full HD.
Priced at Rs. 16,99,990 this TV will be available for pre-booking from October 20, 2012 and will be available in the market by end of November 2012 at selected Sony outlets.
Another interesting device that Sony has announced is the Personal 3D Viewer HMZ-T2. The Personal 3D Viewer from Sony is a head-mounted, High Definition 2D and 3D personal display which boasts of virtual 5.1 surround sound. Sony also claims that this 3D viewer has TruBlack display and high response OLED screens (one for each eye), which eliminates crosstalk. It comes with a price tag of Rs. 69,990 and will be available for pre-booking from mid-October and in the market by November.
For the camera enthusiasts, Sony has launched its DSLT Alpha a99 DSLR camera and DSC-RX100. The Alpha a99, is the new flagship camera from the company and it comes with Translucent Mirror full frame and Translucent Mirror technology. The Japanese company also claims that this world's first camera with Dual AutoFocus system. With full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor, this camera offers 24.4 effective megapixels and also offers advanced BIONZ image processing engine.
DSC-RX100 on the other hand is 1.0-type Exmor CMOS sensor with a resolution of 20.2 effective megapixels.
Sony also showcased the VAIO dual touch-screen enabled models - VAIO E14A and Ultrabook, VAIO T but did not give specifics regards the launch of these laptops.
Speaking on the launch, Kenichiro Hibi, Managing Director, Sony India, said, "Diwali is one of the biggest and most celebrated festivals in India and Sony plans to make this Diwali even bigger and brighter. We are pleased to offer our customers a premium collection of innovative products, that would enrich their experience to a whole new level, and festive offers that will cater to their distinct preferences in a country as diverse as India. This festive season with our revolutionary product portfolio and compelling offers, we are confident of achieving 50 percent increase over our last year's festive season sales, taking it to Rs. 2,850 crores (September - November 2012 period) this year".
When quizzed about the plans to introduce new tablet in the market, Hibi shared that, "We are closely monitoring the tablet space in India and will be looking at launching a strategic product shortly."
To achieve the stiff sales target that Sony has set for itself, the company has earmarked a budget of Rs. 150 crores.
Sony also shared that it was planning to increase its distribution strength from 10,400 centres to 16,200 in this year.
