City youths experiment with technology to create apps

In a first, a city youth has developed a Marathi crossword online game for enthusiasts. There are more like him dabbling with technology to develop innovative mobile applications, making routine work easier and better.

Manas Gajre has founded a gaming company; he, along with his teammates, came up with the idea to develop a Marathi crossword. "The Marathi crossword usually appears in newspapers. The word puzzle used to be very popular and people would spend hours solving the puzzle during their leisure time. However, with time, the appeal for the crossword has dwindled and the newspapers too have stopped carrying them," he said.

Gajre said the attraction of solving the crossword too has reduced among the readers. So Gajre decided to create an online version of the puzzle. Gajre said the game has 50 levels in all and the difficulty level increases after each level is cleared.
Like Gajre, there are others indulging in creation of more such mobile apps through experimentation.

Anand Shirsath is another youth who has developed a number of applications catering to children like 'Balgeet', which allows them to get hands on access to their favourite poems and songs with lyrics and 'Android-Balwadi', which teaches alphabets, colours and numbers to pre-schoolers.

Parag, yet another city based entrepreneur, has developed an application for personal use. "I have created an app that allows controlling lighting conditions at home. The app is connected to the electrical circuit and operates on Bluetooth," he adds.
